About This Page

I setup this site to show pictures and share knowledge about chopmarked coins. Although I've been a collector my whole life, around 2011 I started collecting U.S. Trade Dollars, which quickly led to discovering Chinese chopmarks. At first they were a fun side-focus, later they became the main focus of my collecting and turned into a long-term passion.

Historically there haven't been many collectors pursuing chopmarked coins, but the number seems to be growing as more people discover their unique history.

Quick shoutout to those who came before me, Frank Rose, J.D. Bowman, Ron Waddell, and a special thanks to Ed Murphy for the inspiration. Big thanks to Ben in Hong Kong for finding cool coins.

Here's a picture of the first chopmarked coin I ever owned - an 1875-CC trade dollar with chops. Wild West meets The Orient. This is the coin that started it all. It came to me from a good friend...thanks for all the help buddy.
